Are you considering counselling? Here are some factors to help you, before you consider your therapeutic journey

However glibly we may “brush under the carpet” the stigma about getting help, it seems we are unsure about how to find assistance, or what different types of treatments, are on offer.

There are innumerable modalities of therapy, so landing in a good place with a suitable approach and with the right therapist is a process. In order for therapy to be effective, both clients and therapists need to be transparent and honest.

To help the process, I tend to encourage my clients to consider asking themselves the following, “self” questions prior to therapy:-

  • Why are you seeking counselling?

  • What are you expecting from your therapist?

  • What form of therapy are you looking for?

  • What would you like to work on/desired outcome?

  • What are you prepared to do to achieve these goals?

  • What support will you require from others - Family, friends, work colleagues?

  • What factors will impact your therapeutic journey? (lifestyle, work/home environment).

Having some idea about what you would like to achieve in counselling means that we can review your progress regularly and make sure we are spending time addressing these issues and what matters most to you.

If you are thinking about counselling but nervous or unsure of the process, I offer a free 30 minute initial consultation to answer any questions you may have.
